6/21/71- St. Louis: U.S. troops would be coming home faster if this was a presidential election year said U.S. Rep. Donald Riegle Jr., Rep. Michigan, in St. Louis, 6/21, Riegle was among three members of "congressional barnstorming tour" in St. Louis to seek support for early withdrawal from Vietnam. Riegle said candidate Richard Nixon told him in 1968 that the Vietnam war would be ended in six months after he got into office. "It's been a very long six months," Riegle said.
