William J. Driver was confirmed by the Senate yesterday as administrator of Veteran Affairs, in a 75-7 vote. He is the first career federal employee to head the V.A. Interviewed after the Senate vote, Driver said, "this has been a very hectic first 30 days," referring to pressure put on his office after it was announced that 11 V.A. hospitals would be closed.
