Description
McDonogh Day - Sixth graders Aaron Humphrey and Clem Foster lead a procession of students from McDonogh 26 elementary school in Gretna into McDonoghville Cemetery for a brief McDonogh Day ceremony in honor of the man who bequeathed his fortune to establish public schools in New Orleans and Baltimore. Teachers chose 4 students per grade to participate in the program during which flowers were laid on the former grave of John McDonogh (he was later moved) and gave short speeches and sang a song.
