Description
American newspapers which described Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's emergency rule as a "dictatorship" or "demise of democracy" were taking liberty with the facts, an Indian ambassador said Monday. A.P. Venkateswaran, acting ambassador to the United States, indicated during a conference with Times-Picayune editors that American journalists in India were not as well prepared as correspondents sent to other countries and that he knew of no American journalist in India who knew any Indian language.
