These are two poses of Portuguese rebel Captain Henrique Galvao which were made by a U.S. Navy photographer aboard the hijacked Portuguese liner Santa Maria. Galvao permitted the photos to be made when the ship was boarded by U.S. Admiral Allen E. Smith on January 31 for a conference.
