Percy the Kiwi (C), New Zealand's official gift to the London Zoo arrived at San Francisco Airport late 9/18 where he (or possibly she, no one knows) was met by New Zealand's Consul-General R.N. Firth (L) and Fred Roemer, chief keeper at the San Francisco Zoo. The Kiwi, national bird of New Zealand, is so rare that the species is almost extinct, is enroute to New York where it will rest before the final leg of the journey.
